Quiz Night Round Up

Well after much hype and jibe about the prospect of a Quiz Night (given the last one didn’t actually eventuate - as I am led to believe from my limited tenure at DSCC) the 2011 event has come and gone with quantifiable success.

The specially-convened sub-committee approached the occasion with marked fervour and whilst there were clearly one or two areas we could have improved upon, the general mood on the night and the subsequent feedback seemed to suggest an enjoyable time was had by most and ultimately a few dollars were raised to top up the fundraising budget. Sub Committee members who made it happen were Lindsay Ernshaw, Mario Cavallaro, James Miller and Mark Lucas. Volunteers on the bar were Geoff Lovelock, Nigel Hading and our Prez Graham Ekert. Thanks also go to 2 of Marios talented employees who ran the scoring for us. Our thanks go to them.

Our illustrious mentor and quiz-master Mario led from the front on the evening and was ably-supported in the lead-up by the “quiz planners” including Lindsay who managed to secure some fantastic major prizes and auction items. Arguably the most sought-after auction item was for Mitch Cork to prepare a meal for 8 persons in the privacy of one’s home with DSCC committee members to wait on every need of the successful bidders. We can only hope these highly-respected members of our club deliver food and wine to a feasting diner at the dinner table better than they deliver a stitched, leather ball to a feasting batsman at the batting crease!

The quiz-master produced some mighty challenging questions – challenging enough for all, but even more-so for the mere youngsters of the club (I have to explain my table’s last positioning somehow). Yet this mattered for nought as there was much mirth on the night and if you didn’t leave with a prize from the raffle you almost certainly would have left with an auction item valued at significantly more than the funds you had donated to the club.

The next DSCC quiz night may not be as soon as next year however the achieved success suggests the event should be a regular one, so I hope you will join with others in their unrequited anticipation of a 2013 quiz night!!

At this point we must recognise all those who donated prizes personally or who were able to arrange for prizes to be donated. Your contributions are well-appreciated in ensuring the continued viability and level of enjoyment for the club. The contributions and efforts of many helped raise approximately $4300 for the club.

Please scroll down to recognise and acknowledge our prize donors. There are many club people who work for these businesses or who contacted them. We thank them for their generosity.
